Tuition fee

The tuition fee for the Humboldt Master of Laws amounts to 15,000 € (7,500 € per semester)

Applicants must ensure they have sufficient financial resources to fund their studies. We strongly encourage prospective students to plan their finances carefully and well in advance, exploring all available funding opportunities. These may include:

  • Government loans or scholarships from your home country or the host country
  • Scholarships offered by private organizations, NGOs, or grant foundations
  • Loans from banks or specialised student loan providers
  • Employer support, such as loans, salary advances, grants, or paid leave
  • Other funding options, including a combination of the above

It is the responsibility of students to secure their own funding. The university does not provide direct support in this matter.

Payment

The tuition fee must be paid in advance after you receive a study place offer. Only once the payment has been received will your admission be finalized, and the letter of admission will be sent to you.

Please note, however, that enrollment at the university (Immatrikulation) will only be processed once the payment has been received in full in the Humboldt-Universität’s account. A confirmation from the scholarship provider alone is not sufficient for enrollment.

Student union contribution

In addition to the tuition fee, Programme participants will have to pay a student union contribution (Semesterbeitrag) of around 300 € per semester. This money contributes to financing student self-government and administering student social welfare, e.g. discounted meals in university cafeterias and cheap housing in dormitories.

Scholarships

In the case of full enrollment in the Master's programme, partial or full tuition waivers may be granted.

Separate applications are not required, since all LL.M. Programme applicants are automatically considered for these scholarships if they indicate their interest on the Program application form.

In addition, prospective students may apply for scholarships offered by various foundations, companies, and organisations. For example, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides various kinds of scholarships for foreign students wishing to study in Germany and for German students going to study abroad.
